A three-day training programme titled “Capacity Building Programme for Sustainable Ginger and Turmeric Cultivation” was organized from 09th to 11th September 2025 at ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode, under the Pan India Action Research Project on the Improvement of Spice Value Chains. The programme was attended by 20 participants from 8 different states, representing 8 NGOs. The training comprised both theoretical and practical sessions covering key aspects of production, plant protection, and post-harvest technologies related to ginger and turmeric cultivation. The training commenced with an inaugural session led by Dr. R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IISR. This was followed by technical sessions conducted by Dr. D. Prasanth, Dr. V. Sreenivasan, and Dr. C. N. Biju, focusing on various scientific and agronomic aspects of ginger and turmeric cultivation. The day concluded with a visit to the processing facility at ICAR-IISR, led by Dr. Alfiya P. V., where participants gained insights into spice processing technologies. On the second day, participants visited the IISR Experimental Farm at Peruvannamuzhi, where they observed the cultivation practices of various spice crops and associated processing methods. The field visit was guided by Mr. Muhammed Nissar V. A., Dr. Muhammed Azharudheen T. P., and Mr. Pawan Gowda. Following this, the team visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), where Mr. K. M. Prakash explained different cultivation practices and intercropping systems adopted in Kerala households. The third day began with an interactive session on upcoming project activities and Frontline Demonstrations (FLDs). Representatives shared the current status of FLDs on ginger and turmeric in their respective locations. This session was led by Dr. Lijo Thomas. Subsequently, sessions on post-harvest operations and value addition in ginger and turmeric were delivered by Dr. E. Jayasree and Dr. Alfiya P. V., emphasizing strategies to enhance product quality and marketability. The programme concluded with a valedictory session, marking the successful completion of the three-day training. The entire event was effectively coordinated by Dr. Sajesh V. K. and Dr. Lijo Thomas.
